Koshijutsu (骨指術; attacks against muscles) is the skill of attacks to muscle and nerve points in Japanese martial arts. Koshijutsu is a major component of taijutsu. ""koshijutsu literally means "Bone Fingers" and it means the bony fingers pressing in on the pressure points of a human around the whole body.
This art of nerve striking utilizes the knowledge of the human body's nerves and muscles. The striking of these point causes sharp pain, numbness, and through some vital points the martial artist can cause temporary paralysis and even death. One can use this knowledge to gain an advantage over a larger or maybe even more skilled opponent. For instance if the opponent is skilled in blocking strikes, one could start by striking the points on the limbs and slowing the adversary down bit by bit, working up to the more vital nerve points and incapacitating the opponent and allowing for escape. There are some occasions where the martial artist must defend themselves, the well being of a weaker ally or innocent person, in which the martial artist is taught to engage and fight.
Koppōjutsu (骨法術) means attacks against bones in Japanese. Koppōjutsu is commonly considered a hard art in comparison to the soft arts such as koshijutsu (骨指術; attacks against muscles). Legend claims it was invented by the kappa, who excel at this discipline.

2010 Swimming

Abe and Joy are enduring their first swim season well. I have been keeping all the heat ribbons in a little book. Above is a photo of Abe's practice dive and where he was leading the audience in the Pledge of Alliegence (you can just see a little of the headset microphone cord).

temple cultural celebration

Lydia did some fun dances. In one she was a pioneer and did some partner dancing with Travis Skinner. In the other she wore a brown shirt with "100% cotton" on it and the whole field was filled with popping cotton balls (white beanies).
Earlier that day, Dad was out looking at horses with his friend, Harold Matthews. Harold is fluent in Horse, but his Spanish is pretty rough. Harold "felt like I should move away" just before a mare came and kicked at another through the fence right where Jared was. Jared felt it was another of the narrow escapes prophesied by his grandfather in a blessing. To me the story reemphasized how important timing is. It is amazing how we can be blessed by being in the right place at the right time. I think it is part of the admonition to "stand in holy places". Being able to be in and watch the temple cultural celebration was a special treat for our whole family. Many people are calling it a once in a lifetime experience, which makes me smile, since I remember them telling me that when I attended the dedication of the Jordan River temple as a youngster. This is the 6th temple dedication I have participated in. But I do regret that Jarom did not follow his prompting to attend institute even though he was not attending school this semester. The institute kids were all technical crew and stuff; he just had his wisdom teeth out and did well to get to and sit through the program. Anyway, if I can focus on the wonderful benefits that being here has brought to the family, then maybe I won't feel so bad about being so far away from the rest of my family.

So Benjamin really likes to watch our home videos on the computer. The other day we came across this video from Christmas that we took at Joy's dance recital. I thought all of you might enjoy it as well, so I'm posting it here for all of you to enjoy. So, without further ado, here's the video:
