There is a very big aeroplane. It can hold up to 500 passengers. 500 passengers is a big number. This aeroplane is flying from England to Scotland and is holding 500 passengers. The plane crashes on the borderline and exactly on it between the countries. Where should the survivors be buried-England or Scotland? remember the plane crashed exactly on the border line

Stewart's Christmas Plans

We will be arriving at the Phoenix airport at 5:05 p.m. on ThursdayDecember 17th. We plan to spend a week and a day with the Smith fam -- we will head for Tucson the morning of the 26th. I'm not sure how exactly we will head there, unless ya'll want to take a little day trip or something, but we're meeting the Stewarts there for the following week. Then we come back to the Smith's place for the night of Saturday January 2nd and then we leave from Phoenix at 4:30 on Tuesday the 5th. Ta da!

Does anyone else have Christmas plans yet? How long are the kids in school? How many cars do we have in Central? You still have that carseat, right? xoxo

First day of school

I remembered to grab my camera this year.

24th of July

There was, predictabley, some sort of temple theme so Lydia was in the parade as a bride, but they drove by way too fast. So I got a picture of her walking back to our viewing spot. She got to wear the dress that I made for Clare when she was the dead bride in Jennings' play her junior year.
True story - I was quite miserable at the event because of a migraine, so when the firetrucks came by (laying on the horns of course) I was covering my ears, nevertheless the loud sound affected my vision quite dramatically: when the horns sounded the pavement moved in opposite horizontal directions - like two colors of pudding or the techtonic plates of the ocean floor - it was freaky.

St George Trip poolside

We spent plenty of time at the pool on all days. Joel , Ransom and Jarom made up a game using the toypeedo and a dive ring, that was pretty fun.
I think Ransom is ready to shoot the toypeedo here.

I have long wanted videos of my kids' swim strokes, so here is (fanfair) Ransom in motion.

The way Joy fearlessly took to the water reminded me of her first time sledding last spring. She did not let inexperience keep her from having fun.

St George Trip third day

After seeing Clare and Daria off, we went to the John D. Lee reunion lunch and stopped at the temple visitor's center. From there we checked out this cool on-site dinosaur museum. The "swim tracks" and the "tail drags" were my favorite parts.

St George Trip second day

We took the long way up to the Shakespearean Festival and stopped at Mountain Meadows. Joy thought it was a photo shoot. Andrew and Ashley were patient but would rather have been at home.

St George Trip first day

Emma and Joy are cousins reunited. They just got out of the pool at Helen's condo where we all met the evening we first got there. It was Daria's Birthday, Helen had a cake and lots of good food, (she's cool like that).

A Fairy Can Die in the Sun

When Joy was almost 5 she began to realize that she was a lot younger than the rest of the family, and she regretted it. She cried about it one day, saying that it was no fun to be the youngest and the smallest. I tried to console her and tell her she was loved. I acknowledged that she was the youngest and the smallest and reminded her about how small she was when she was born and that we called her "Funky fairy chicken" and "sugar plumb fairy chicken" because we love her. She did not like the "chicken" part until I explained that it was like a cute fuzzy chick, so she has tried to get us to change it to "fairy chick". At Halloween that year she was Tinker Bell. When the Tinker Bell movies came out the next year, we bought them for her to watch and I told her they reminded me of her because she is my little fairy. A few weeks ago, when she got home from her friend's house, I asked her what they did. She said they told secrets. Well of course I wanted to know what secrets 6 year olds have to tell. She said that she told them she was really a fairy, but they did not believe her. They said that fairies are not big. She told them that when she was born, she was so little she was smaller than baby clothes.
Saturday, Joy heard that I was taking some chickens to the McBrides and asked incredulously: "you are selling chickens?" No, I assured her I was just giving them to Nadine so that the other hens would not be too crowded in the Omlet hen house, since they cannot all find places to lay at the same time, which makes it hard for her to collect the eggs. We went out to catch the hens and she found a lid for the container to carry the two hens safely next door and followed me over there. We found that Brian has 6 or 7 young roosters in his sheep shelter out back. As we were adding the hens in with his roosters, Joy began to complain of stomach and head pain. She asked to be carried back to the house. I gave her a piggy-back ride as far as the front gate. I thought maybe it was the heat -- 113 degrees F. that day till the thunderheads rolled in and it dropped to 103. (Incidentally Jared and Jarom had to haul the hay in before it rained. And Abe got his first try at driving the hay bucking truck!)
This morning, as we braved the heat for a moment to get to the car, she said, "When you were selling chickens, I learned that a fairy can die in the sun." This afternoon, she went out the door to go play with Michael but came back saying again: "a fairy can die in the sun". She stayed home.
We are going north for a few days this week.

Joy shines on stage

I made Mermaid costumes for Joy and Sariah. They sang and danced in Peter Pan.

Her ballet skills improve. She danced to "Jolly Holliday" from Mary Poppins in this fun tutu with about 12 other dancers. And she had me take these photos over several times to get her arms and feet the way she wanted them.

Abe tries his talents

Swimming

Acting (as "Noodler" a pirate in Peter Pan).

He's always been good at this game!

And a recently developed skill, multiple hoola hoops.

He did great at his piano recital, but I wasn't able to attend and this is what I got from our photographer, who shall remain anonymous.

So Talented (and you haven't even seen his cooking or biking or dribbling or math skills)!

Take a bow Abe.

Lydia gets a drivers permit

While accepting a certificate for her participation in Track, Lydia decides she has been on foot long enough.

She is now 16, and has a learners permit. This celebratory birthday breakfast proves it.

Watch out world! Here she comes.
